My Students

“I can do this!” These were the words a struggling first-grade student shouted as she completed a S.T.E.M. challenge activity. Observing the excitement and joy when a child has confidence in their abilities is exciting for a teacher. Our school is in Montana. Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for 100 percent of the students. Providing meals means less stress for the student, and they come to class ready and eager to learn.

I keep our days filled with hands-on, challenging, active, learning opportunities.

The schedule is predictable because many students' home lives are filled with unpredictability.

I believe all students can learn, and each is unique in their abilities. I take that into consideration as some students stand and work while others lay on the floor. My students are taught that each student gets what they need (from me) to be successful; they don’t all get the same thing. Children in the first grade understand this and look forward to having their needs met on an individual basis. My classroom is a comfortable, safe, and enriching environment that allows my students to feel confident to take risks and make mistakes.

My Project

Each student learns in different ways, and personalized learning is key in today’s classrooms. Activities in my classroom are differentiated to promote growth for all learners. I encourage my students to become independent thinkers and problem solve when the situation arises. Classroom organization plays a key role in being able to locate materials quickly and transition easily. My students are encouraged to take charge of their learning, and when supplies are easy to find and clearly labeled, the whole classroom runs smoother. Therefore, children are able to regulate their environment and develop higher-level thinking skills. A smooth running, predictable classroom environment means less stress for the children and more time to learn.

I am extremely grateful for all the S.T.E.M and literacy supplies that have been funded through DonorsChoose.org, and organization of these materials will ensure that all students will benefit from them.

The storage unit and bins from this project will be used for many years, so potentially hundreds of students would benefit.

Thank you for allowing me to personalized student learning. Personalized and self-directed student learning builds enthusiasm in the classroom. This makes children eager to learn and come to school each day. Your generous donation will enable the students to have the organizational supplies and materials needed in today’s classroom. It will help build strong, confident learners, who are able to demonstrate independent thinking skills with confidence.
