Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Gifted students from 1st grade through 5th grade My school recently became a STEM school, so we are focusing on enhancing our 21st century skills of creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking! Students in our school come from all types of backgrounds, mainly Hispanic and African American.
My students have a love and passion for learning, they come to school every day charged up and ready to tackle new challenges.
I am amazed by the way they think outside the box to solve problems in innovative ways and by their energy!
The majority of the students at my school are English learners with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home. Over 85% of students also qualify for free lunch. We are a Title I school as well. None of these things hold us back, they just make us shine even brighter!
My Project
Engineering learning activities are getting increasingly important in today's education. Teachers need to have supplies and materials in order to provide those activities for students. This project cart will help me organize our school wide Makerspace Lab and provide more discovery and project-based learning experiences for my students.
STEM is important because it allows students to open their minds to learn in a way that will prepare them for the future, students use the Engineering Design Process to solve real world problems and design solutions.
Unfortunately, we do not always have an organized way for each student to get a meaningful experience. With the organizer cart, they will be able to clearly see which drawer their needed supply is in and get to it safely. Right now we have shoe boxes stacked 6 high on a book shelf. This is not ideal! With this organizer cubby system, they will be able to actually get to materials easily and create their designs and see it come to life.
