it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When my students open up to me and explain the hardships they face, I am impressed by their ability to attend school despite these daily challenges.
Many students in my classroom have struggled and overcome immense obstacles, showing their resiliency.
As a Title One school, a large portion of my students are at-risk teens, meaning they need extra support and guidance to help them succeed. My at-risk students not only struggle with the burdens of a normal teenager, like peer pressure and managing stress, but they also face adult challenges like trying to find their next meal, taking care of their siblings, and even working to provide rent money to help their parents. Most of my students just need someone to show that they care, in order to motivate them to succeed. My classroom is meant as a safe haven for these students where they receive support and have their basic human needs met.
Many of my students come to school hungry, or go home where there is little to eat. By having non-perishable snacks, I can make sure students who haven't eaten, start their day off right, or go home with something to eat.
