Stop Your Heart for Heartstopper

Help me give my students the Heartstopper series of graphic novels for our classroom library!

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Martinson's classroom raised $271

My Project

This project aims to enrich our classroom library with the “Heartstopper” series by Alice Oseman. This heartwarming graphic novel series follows the journey of Charlie and Nick as they navigate friendship, love, and self-discovery. By funding this project, you will provide our diverse middle school students with high-quality literature that reflects their experiences and fosters empathy.

The “Heartstopper” series acts as both windows and mirrors for our students.

As mirrors, these books reflect the diverse identities and experiences of our students, allowing them to see themselves in the characters and stories. This validation is crucial for building self-esteem and a sense of belonging. As windows, the series opens up new perspectives, helping students understand and appreciate the experiences of others. This dual role encourages empathy, acceptance, and meaningful discussions about identity, acceptance, and mental health.

The “Heartstopper” series is particularly effective in capturing students’ interest with its relatable characters and authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ themes. These books will not only enhance literacy skills but also encourage meaningful discussions about identity, acceptance, and mental health. By exploring these topics, students will develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
