My Students
I am a special education teacher working at a low-income school. My students are very energetic and curious. They learn best visually, with a hands-on learning approach. At times, we don't have access to the same resources as the general education class due to limited funds.
I work with students with special needs, ranging from learning disabilities to autism; they all have a thirst for learning.
Our school has a diverse population and culture with a wide range of needs. Our student body is a melting pot of local and military families.
My Project
My students are currently using headphones with the earpads falling apart or the cable is coming off. We use our headphones on a daily basis, and we definitely put them to good use. The benefit of wearing the headphones in class is so they can concentrate on what's on their own device and not distract the learning of others. However, we are slowly losing them through normal wear and tear. Therefore, by acquiring the Califone headsets with carrying case, this will help store the units to maintain their longevity and help our students focus and listen to the presented information via their respective devices.
My students need comfortable headphones with a microphone so they can listen and focus with less distractions, as well as record themselves via the designated online programs we use to help our students practice and enhance their academic skills.
They have made so many gains this past school year, hitting those phonemic awareness and early math skills by accessing the online programs and using their designated device with headphones on a daily basis. Let's keep their progress going with a new set of headphones!
