Our school is located in a high performing district that seeks to open the doors to learning for all students. Our goal is to do what is necessary to help each child achieve success inside and outside of school.
The children in our classrooms range from early childhood through third grade and come from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
We are passionate about making sure each and every child has the opportunities necessary to succeed. We believe that all students can achieve their full potential when provided with the right tools and instruction.
My Project
The books purchased through this grant will fill backpacks with books for students from our school to read over the summer. These books will be used by our most at risk readers grades Kindergarten through third grade. These backpacks will provide students in need with access to books over the summer.
Research has shown that students who do not read throughout the summer can drop as many as 4 reading levels.
These books will help students maintain the growth they made during school over the summer. At the end of the summer the book backpacks will be returned to school and the books will be used again next summer.
The books selected include popular fiction series that children love such as Elephant and Piggy, Henry and Mudge, Katie Woo, Pedro, Young Cam Jansen, Poppleton, Iris and Walter, and Eloise. We have also selected a variety of nonfiction National Geographic Readers and Kingfish readers that include high interest topics. These books will engage our at risk readers in essential summer reading.
