This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Flu, colds, sniffles, sneezes, cough, stomach virus, oh my. This year everyone seems to be sick. I'm not sure if the increased illness is due to our living conditions after the floods of Hurricane Sandy but I want to stop the kids from sharing their germs.

A snapshot of our middle school shows a diverse high-need school comprised of about 1100 students in grades 6 to 8.

Half of our student population receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers. The students have all been affected by Hurricane Sandy. The children have lost time in school, some lived without power or heat for weeks, many families still can not return home due to water damage.

My Project

My students need Tissues, Hand Sanitizer, and Disinfecting Wipes to stay germ free. In middle school parents do not send in tissues and antibacterial gel to the classroom. The school has supplied these health products but the need is great this year. The tissue boxes are empty every time I turn around. I want to keep the kids from spreading their germs with the tissues, hand sanitizer and wipes I have requested.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy at our school.

Usually we encourage the students to share but in this case I want them to stop sharing their germs.
