My amazing Pre-K class is located in bright, sunny Florida. Our Pre-K program is connected with the local school district and all of my students who have special needs attend our program free of charge. Our wonderful classroom has 17 precious students with many varying levels of special and sensory needs. We have 13 ESE (Exceptional Student Education) and 4 VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) students. The ages of our class range from three to five year old students.
My students are very caring, loving, and eager to absorb the world around them.
They all learn in a non-traditional way and need hands on experiences on a daily basis to learn and retain new information. Our Pre-K program is relatively new to our elementary school, so we are in need of manipulatives and materials to help meet their needs. These materials will not only help my students in learning and growing, but it will benefit all of the students in our Pre-K ESE/VPK program (a total of 35 students!).
My Project
Have you ever created beautiful engaging materials and visual aids for your students, but only had a black and white printer at school? …or printed an activity on cardstock and while you were using it a student tore it? To help combat this issue, my class is asking for a HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 multifunctional all in one printer and hard lamination pouches.
With a HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 multifunctional all in one color printer and hard lamination pouches, I will be able to create, print out, and laminate sturdy dynamic instructional materials and visual aids needed for my students to succeed.
I will use the color printer to print visual aids for my students. My student who is deaf will greatly benefit from a variety of visuals, as well as my students with speech and language delays and developmental delays. Visual aids and supports can be used in many ways to facilitate learning of new concepts and vocabulary. Single visual pictures can be used as tools to help understanding and vocabulary building. Visual schedules can be used to help the children follow the daily routine and a visual breakdown of an activity can facilitate a child to follow a sequence of activities to complete a task.
My class currently has a small laminating machine, but we are in need of lamination pouches to help protect all of our materials, visuals aids, and task box activities. The hard lamination pouches will help keep the learning materials safe and secure from tearing. When an activity is laminated, my students can use dry erase markers and then erase it and reuse it over and over again, essentially saving both paper and printer ink. The laminating pouches will ensure that the learning materials and visual aids last a long time.
