it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The G STEAM Group (GSG), promotes careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). GSG wants to inform the school community on the impact it has in STEAM learning, using the group’s student news publication and professional grade technology.
Our mission is: With integrity, G STEAM Group is devoted to increasing awareness and promoting academic excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
It is our goal to report on scientific attitudes, innovation, and science-based opportunities, while being accurate, thorough, and an interesting source of school news.
My Project
Students will establish an engineering problem, after the G STEAM Group randomly chooses criteria for the challenge from a deck of cards. Students will brainstorm individually with a packet of post-its and a pen. The idea is for students to generate ideas, not evaluate, that can meet the criteria requirements for this engineering activity. Students will brainstorm individually in silence before working in small student led groups.
Our kids are not bound by the current limitations of science and engineering, just by their imagination.
After brainstorming independently, students will converse with their group members about their ideas. Student groups must come up with a solution that will meet the needs of the user/consumer and the criteria as a team. This solution can be someone's idea, a hybrid idea, or a new idea, but student groups need to agree on one solution by the end of the discussion. Students can add things that may not be invented yet.
Student groups need to create a 3-D mock-up that they will present to the G STEAM Group. Each group will be supplied with copy paper, pens, scissors, and masking tape. After creating their mock-ups, student groups will present their prototypes to the whole school in a G STEAM Group publication, explaining how their prototypes met the user, the problem, and the criteria requirements.
