This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Getting these essential supplies will have a great impact on my students' learning. While some students bring their own materials, some don't, making it harder for them to complete assignments. I work at a Title I school, where most of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch. Art supplies are expensive and some families just can't afford them. I purchase some materials, but the quantities I can afford are limited. With over two hundred students, materials don't last very long. Dollar Tree has been my greatest help when purchasing class sets of scissors, rulers, glue sticks, and containers for organizing. But they do not have everything I need to properly run an art classroom. I have also bought supplies from different buy/sell groups on Facebook, but it is hard to find people selling art supplies. Unfortunately, some of the more art-specific supplies, such as tempera paint and oil pastels must be bought at an art supply store and this can get really pricey. Other supplies, like markers, are needed in large quantities which require the purchase of class sets, which are typically more expensive. We have been working with what we have, but we are getting to the point where what we have is not working anymore. Despite the challenges, my students' work turns out amazing and some of it is accepted into several local exhibitions throughout the school year. Imagine what we could do if we had more materials! With your help, we can stop imagining and start creating!
