This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a wonderful little class of kindergartners who are "Targeted" for my class. These students are struggling learners who are placed with us based on their Developing Skills Checklist assessment given the first week of school. These students score significantly lower than the other kindergartners.
My kindergartners are the hardest workers!
They are children who have had no exposure with school before and have to work a little harder than their peers. They come from impoverished homes and their lives are typically a little more difficult in general. They do not always have what their more privileged peers have access to.
My Project
Our school district is now giving our Kindergarten students standardized tests on the computer. My students are from some very impoverished homes and they have little to no access to technology beyond their mom's cell phone. I am so concerned that my students will not perform if they do not have any practice using a keyboard and a mouse. While testing, they will be required to click and drag many of their answers. I want to order a laptop that I can move around the room into various stations. I have a mouse that I will attach for them to get the practice they need clicking and dragging.
