As a teacher of a 5th grade ELA and Social Studies classroom in a rural area, I want my students to leave my room loving to read. We all come from different ethnicities and backgrounds.
In our classroom, it is key that we are accepting of others and their learning styles.
Collaborating is our most favorite way of working. We do this through classroom discussion, making movies using iMovie, creating stories together through Google Docs, and even using Google Classroom to have book talks.
My students need round tables. We come from a school where every student has a device. Often we tend to lose the collaborative aspect of learning as we start to hide behind our screens. In the workforce, we are forced to work together as a team to reach a common goal, just as we work together in the classroom.
Instead of sitting at individual desks, these tables will allow my students the opportunity to collaborate and work together during instruction.
Learning is not something we do alone. We all learn from each other. Please help me give my students the opportunity to stop, collaborate, and listen to each other at these tables.
