My Project

Seating options are critical to a child’s success within the classroom. We are in need of stools to place at our small group tables to use during small group instruction. In a recent professional development workshop we completed on ways to effective teach reading in the classroom, we were told about a wonderful technique. The workshop leader explained that a great deal of growth is shown in reading when teachers have all but one of the students turn around on a stool and face the opposite direction while the group is reading a book. This enables students to be practicing reading the text while the teacher focuses on one student’s reading. The student who is reading to the teacher that day can focus and not be distracted by the other students in the group. The students reading in the opposite direction remain on task. These stools will help allow our students to pivot around and back easily, enabling for a more effective small group reading time.
