This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Each year I welcome a new group of students into my classroom. What helps us start the year off strong is having materials that help students realize they are valued in the classroom and that this is a home for working hard and being cared for. This is why I am stocking up on staple materials that we use on a daily basis in our classroom. Since many of my students may not have access to these materials on their own, I like to provide them in the classroom.
All students deserve to have access to materials that will help them succeed!
To help students start off strong, I provide them all with pencil cases they can use in class daily. We call these "annotation kits". While I recycle supplies as much as possible, we are in need of more pencils, post-it notes, and labels. More paper is needed to help students take notes. Highlighters for students to use when annotating. We also create anchor charts as a group for not only our skills but our own group contracts. This is why I am in need of more chart paper. New border and paper is asked to help set up new areas to showcase student work as well as special tape to help hang things on the concrete walls. Additionally, I am asking for tissues to help students meet their most basic needs. Lastly, in order to build a positive classroom culture and allow students to show their unique selves, I utilize stickers as team builders and incentives.
