Welcome to my Science Lab! I have the privilege of teaching 5th and 6th-grade students Science every day! My students attend an inner-city school and are provided with free breakfast and lunch daily. As an inter-district school, we have a population of 70% urban students and 30% suburban.
Hands-on, minds-on is what we live by.
When someone asks me, "What do you do all day?" My usual response is, "Play! I get to play with stuff all day!"
My students explore the sun, Earth, and moon using lights and globes. We've even been known to perform mini-soap operas (As the Earth Turns). We construct mazes using mirrors, investigate sound waves using Slinkys, and mix colors of light. We explore chemical reactions by mixing substances. We build atoms with clay and pipe cleaners, light cheese balls on fire to study food energy, and take virtual field trips to places such as Mono Lake to study ecosystems. We love all things science!
My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting will allow my students to explore science hands-on. My students need basic classroom supplies to be successful in the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. Pencils are always needed for logging data and observations in our science notebooks. In these notebooks, we journal and sketch daily. Colored pencils add details and creativity to each entry.
Science and art go hand in hand.
My students create Science Fair & Invention Convention project display boards. We research national parks and create posters highlighting important information. Various supplies such as a trimmer, tape, sharpies, and markers will add color and accents to their projects. I am also requesting chalk for fun labs such as having the students carve Cleopatra's Needle and studying shadows. Please consider donating basic supplies to allow my science lab to run successfully.
