Our culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse elementary school is home to over 300 students! Many families find our school when looking for a warm, welcoming community that values and respects diversity. We love our vibrant, historic neighborhood, and we love learning from each other.
One thing that many of our PreK through 5th grade students share in common is their love for our school garden.
They look forward to lessons outside with their teachers and our Food Corps volunteer, to after school Garden Club meetings, and to visiting with their families during open times.
My Project
Our school has an active, beloved school garden. We are lucky to have a large fenced-in garden space, separate from the rest of our outdoor recreation areas. This year, we are partnering with a local organization to redesign our school garden to maximize its potential as a place for both outdoor experiential learning and imaginative nature play.
To go along with the work we are doing with our new partners, we need to restock the garden shed with supplies that will be vital both to caring for our plants and to conducting more lessons outdoors.
We believe it is important to give students access to real, quality garden tools like the shovels, trowels, and pruners, and watering equipment we have requested here. Having basic materials like clipboards and magnifying glasses organized and accessible in our garden shed will make holding class outside easier for teachers, and we know our students will benefit in so many ways from increased time learning and playing outdoors!
