My Students

Why is the stock market so important to our economy? I try to answer that question in a fun and interactive way in my 9th grade Economics class. You have to be clever when trying to assist teenagers learning economic concepts. My tricks is to make it a competition- like the Stock Market Game.

I teach a semester course in a rural town in a small rural state.

Students have no previous introduction to economics, so I am starting with a clean slate. I am excited that my class now has 8 iPads to use for Stock Market Game purposes. Since my students love technology, this will encourage them to play the game and in the process, learn all about the "ins and outs" of the stock market.

My Project

By funding the fees for the stock market game, you make it able for my students to play the game. Several of my students are low-income and simply could not afford to play. By donating, you may be changing the lives of these students by either them taking the knowledge home to their parents or by them being able to apply these skills when they get older.

In the past, I have had students become so enthused about saving, investing, and keeping up with current events that could affect companies.

For instance, when Steve Jobs passed, my students ran to me all day concerned with how that would affect the economy. That would have never happened had I not played the Stock Market Game.
