Help me give my students therapy games, a printer, materials, and tools to make speech therapy run smoothly, make planning easier, and enable me to give them more of my attention.
I do speech and language therapy at two schools on the south side of St. Louis. My students mostly come from low-income homes, and many of them are immigrants and refugees. They range in age from pre-K to sixth grade.
My students are beautifully diverse, hard working, and under-resourced.
We work on improving communication, social skills, language comprehension, and speech intelligibility. My students are not picky or entitled. They are gracious and energetic, and they deserve a therapy room that meets their needs.
My Project
My city students come from all over the world, and I want them to come to speech and enjoy a room that is clean, organized, peaceful, and fun. I want to provide my students with quality games and materials to make speech and language therapy more engaging and enjoyable.
We've been "making do" with 30 year-old games with missing pieces, a lot of handmade projects, and very little variety.
These games, books, and supplies would refresh our therapy room and bring a little more excitement into our days, as well as give me more time to focus on the kids.
Some students use visuals to keep them on task, look for clues about a story we are reading, or practice a targeted speech sound. A color printer would help us create more engaging visuals for them.
