This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"When are we going to have art again?" This is the constant refrain I hear in the hallway. My students are passionate youngsters filled with energy and creativity.
My students are hungry for art.
We are a small, urban, arts integration elementary school. While my students are constantly hoping to see and do more and more art, finances can get in the way. All of my students qualify for Title I benefits because of their socioeconomic status. Please help bring aid to children who really need it.
My Project
Thanks to the help of many, my students have caught the bug for embroidery. They love being able to express themselves and gain valuable life skills. Please consider donating to help fuel this passion for fibers!
Sewing helps release the anxiety, energy, and negative vibes students may be distracted by in the classroom.
Being able to focus on one small task provides a mindful outlet for students who may come from a difficult environment. It also helps cultivate important coping skills like patience, focus, and recovering from mistakes.
In order to create these projects my students need several supplies. The large plastic weaving needles are the perfect tool for elementary school stichery. I have included 2 boxes of yarn to ensure that there is quality tutu and variety enough. The Sharpie markers are to draw their ideas onto the burlap fabric we stitch on, and the tape ensures that the fabric does not unravel
Embroidery in the classroom helps students with their creative expression as well as their emotional expression.
