This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our makerspace is growing into a vibrant hub of innovation and hands-on learning. Students are ready to weave in a new creative thread of sewing to bring their micro:bit robotic pet projects to life! We currently have one working sewing machine for 22 students. Students have asked for more sewing machines to reduce the wait time. My goal is for students to have access to sewing machines to complete their robotics pet projects by adding fabrics.
I'm working to create a joyful, inclusive space where students can learn by making and becoming architects of their own engineering designs.
Every dollar brings us closer to empowering these young 4th and 5th graders through fabric and thread. Students can gain essential skills like stitching, design and creative problem solving, as part of our robotics unit. I strive to provide equitable access to sewing tools as I integrate arts into STEM (STEAM!).
