My Students

A strong body makes the mind strong. (Thomas Jefferson) I want to encourage my students to exercise daily.

My 20-22 students are a very diverse group of great second graders in Georgia.

Some of my students have special needs, and most of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Several of my students are diagnosed with ADHA and ADD. But, they are all wonderful and so eager to learn. We work in various settings through out the day like whole group, small group and independent work. Our school is an inner city school and in a high poverty area.

My Project

My students need water bottles, tokens and chains as well as a map of the United States. They will use these items as we begin a walking club. I would like for my students to understand that a healthy body is as important as a strong mind. I'm trying to teach my students that physical activity doesn't only have to be done in my class. I am starting a walking club where students will be given tokens as they reach different mileage marks. The number of miles the class walks within the school year will be tracked on the United States map. We will study various places along our route. My goal is to teach them that exercise is fun and it does wonders for a persons physical, mental, emotional and social health.

Donations to my classroom will provide incentives for the students in the Stinky Feet Mileage Club.

I will encourage my students to be healthier and my goal is that they are able to carry what they have learned home to their families to make health and fitness a family routine.
