My Project
Every morning, twenty bright-eyed kindergarteners walk into my classroom, many carrying the weight of the world on their tiny shoulders. Some face challenges no child should: poverty, food insecurity, or unstable housing. But in our classroom, I want them to feel safe, inspired, and free to dream.
In kindergarten, the rug is more than a carpet.
It’s our learning hub. We gather there for morning meetings, reading, math games, and storytelling adventures. It’s where imaginations take flight and a sense of community begins.
I try to take them on magical journeys through enchanted forests and across starry skies. But instead of landing on “Imagination Island,” we often end up in “Stinky Feet Land.”
Our rugs are worn-out, stained, and hold the smell of countless tiny sneakers. No amount of vacuuming helps. It’s not just unpleasant—it’s a health concern. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, replacing them isn’t possible.
My students already face enough outside these walls. The least we can do is offer a clean, comfortable space that helps them focus, feel confident, and thrive.
A new rug would mean more than comfort. It would mean dignity, safety, and the chance to dream big. It would help turn our classroom into the magical, welcoming place every child deserves.
