Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 24 energetic kindergarten students. They come from a variety of preschools, diverse backgrounds, and experiences. My classroom encourages creative thinking and hands on learning. Learning Centers are a favorite daily activity for my students. They love to self-select activities that reinforce what we are learning each day. Our school is an Enterprise school, with focuses on Great Expectations and the Core Knowledge curriculum, and is rich in parental support. We encourage active learning at all grade levels. Our school is full of happiness and positive feelings in every classroom. Our teachers are innovative, and we encourage creative thinking with every lesson taught.
My Project
This sensory project will provide more alternative seating options to my students as well as add new and exciting toys and materials to touch and explore in our classroom.
Kindergarten students learn best when they engage all of their senses through movement, balance, sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.
Sensory play helps children's brains develop. The sensory bins full of beads, shapes, and soft objects facilitate tactile exploration, language building, creative play, as well as helping calm an anxious or frustrated child.
The soft cushions and stability balls will help my kids with the wiggles stay focused on learning. Children can find a place in the room to learn and complete their daily work. They may want a quiet spot at a table, or a comfy cushion for the floor. This helps gives them ownership of their work, by choosing where to sit. Cushions and stability balls can be used anywhere in the room and children can move without disturbing their friends. Wiggle seats help kids work their core muscles as they move, and get rid of some energy, so they can be calmer, more attentive learners. Our new seat, manipulatives, and sensory bins are going to make learning fun!
