Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a Pre-K class of 3 and 4 years olds with varying exceptionalities, including physical impairments, learning disabilities and sensory impairments. The goal of the class is to teach these students social and self-help skills, while also teaching pre-school academic skills. We work to give our students the best head start for Kindergarten.
My students work hard to be able to communicate and interact with others.
We strive to teach our students to be independent and learn social skills.
My Project
Since most of the class is in diapers, having steps so that can get on a changing table will be a large step towards them taking some responsibility in their daily routine. We work on learning to complete as much as the daily routine as possible, independently. This encourages students to become self-reliant and boost their confidence.
The class is made of varying physical disabilities, having steps so that they can access all areas of the classroom helps them gain confidence in their abilities.
By gaining confidence, students will become comfortable with their newly discovered abilities and try harder. In a class with varying disabilities, safety is our most important concern. I believe that having these steps so that they can try in a safer environment, is of utmost importance.
