My students come from many different backgrounds- some have grown up on the island, never having left it, and some have lived here for a short time.
My students are lifelong learners who strive to do their best each day.
They are actors, singers and dancers, they are readers and critical thinkers.
They work hard in the classroom each day, trying their best to stay focused and accomplish the many tasks on our schedules. Our class has many different backgrounds, academically, emotionally and economically.
My Project
My project is requesting a classroom set of Fitbit Activity Trackers. These materials will make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives in multiple ways. My students will not have a P.E. teacher next year and some of them are not physically active outside of the classroom. My project will allow all students in my classroom to have personal activity trackers that they are responsible for. Each student will keep track of their daily activity and we will tie our information and data into our lessons. Students need to understand the consequences of physical activity while they are still young.
Students need to be aware of their activity levels and how it affects their overall health.
Having these trackers will make it easier to introduce and cover health topics with them throughout the school year. Plus students love a little competition, so having a competition with their classmates and teacher will motivate them to move more.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
