Stepping Into the World of 4th Grade Literature

My Students
I have taught 2nd grade for the last 12 years. I will be teaching 4th grade this year. I need to enhance my classroom library with high level fiction and non-fiction texts for my students. I want my students to be able to explore the world and use their imagination through literature.
I teach in an inner-city school in the heart of Chicago. My students come from many different backgrounds. Forty-seven different languages are spoken at my school . They are veracious readers. They will read anything they get can get their hands on. I need more books in my library for this very reason.
My Project
The books that I would be receiving will help the students increase their lexile and "grow their brains". The main goal of having the fully stocked classroom library is for the students to read for their enjoyment. I also would love for my students to explore the many different genres of literature.
When I taught second grade, my students enjoyed sitting down and reading a good book. Now that I am moving up two grades, I strongly believe that a good book can improve a child's imagination. When children are exposed to all types of literature, it improves their academic progress. So in closing, please support my students' love of reading and support my project.
