Help me give my students resources to use during guided reading instruction to help strengthen their independent reading skills. These resources will provide students with tools to use for letter learning and a variety of word-solving activities.
Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, inquiry-based instruction, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. I currently have 23 energetic first graders that come from a variety of backgrounds. In my classroom we work to make learning fun, while still connecting to the world around us. My goal as their teacher is to establish a love of learning at a young age.
Our school district, like many others, is limited to the amount of money that can be spent each year, which has greatly impacted the supplies I am able to provide for my classroom.
However, my students are eager and excited to learn!
This project will benefit 24 students in the area of reading and writing. We are blessed with some of these materials already, but not enough for all of the students with whom I work.
These literacy kit resources will be used daily as an additional resource during our guided reading time.
Our school has implemented Jan Richardson's guided reading model head on. I recently wrote and was awarded a grant to supply all of the guided reading book sets for our grade level. These additional tool kits are used in conjunction with the literacy set already purchased and would be used for the word work portion of the lessons. By having access to accurately leveled reading materials geared towards students´ literacy needs, we will be able to not only teach reading, but also differentiate our instruction through small group instruction.
The letter trays and manipulative letters will be for students to use in learning and applying letter sounds to reading and writing. The Literacy Footprints materials will allow students to read, write, listen, and speak all while improving their language skills!
