My students need items to help build a Makerspace in our classroom! We also need the storage for our Makerspace. Help us bring STEM alive in 2nd grade!
We are working hard to become STEM savvy! 80% of jobs in the next decade will require technology skills! -quotesgram.com
If it is 80% in the next decade, imagine what it will be when these second graders are looking for jobs! We will have these kids prepared!
I have a very active groups of kids!
My class is made up of 11 girls and 16 boys. I do centers every day with my class. This allows the students to do a lot of exploring at free play and also have more structured centers. The kids in my class are starting to sound out words right now and are proud!
At the end of the school year, I hope to foster an excitement for learning by utilizing many different teaching methods that speak to each individual child.
With limited funding available for resources, my challenge will be to fund the projects myself. Coming from a public school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, many of our students come from low income families due to the limited resources of our area. We are part of an amazing school district, which is sadly faced with many of the same challenges of most public school districts these days...limited funding. As early kindergarten students, my students are hungry for knowledge and learning and I am eager to share all I can with them!
My Project
We would be using the STEM(science, technology, engineering, mathematics) resources on a weekly basis for sure and sometimes on a daily basis. Part of the Next Generation Science Standards, which is what we follow, includes the need for some of these resources. The students will assess the problem, fill out a "blueprint" and then construct. After they are done the go back and can change something to make the final product better. This school year we had a company come in to the school, talk about STEM, how it is used in their jobs and did projects with the kids. It was their favorite day! The K-2 STEM bundle has many different supplies that we will be able to use for projects along with the engineering centers. The STEM bundle has many different materials that go along with the standards that we meet. We will be using these supplies in small groups to enhance our learning. With all of these supplies we need something to put them in! The storage shelf would be accessible for everyone!
STEM is huge and it it our children's future.
Technology has become an integral tool in everyday life whether we like it or not! Kids can usually work technology better than most adults! By having these resources available to my students they are going to become STEM savvy! 8 out of 10 jobs are STEM related. As they get older and are looking into what they want to do in their future they need to be prepared. We are taking the first step toward this.
