Help me give my students graphic novels of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein so struggling readers will connect better with the text.

My Project
But, Ms. Hussey, graphic novels aren't "real reading." They don't have any academic merit! Well, I'm sorry to say that you'd be wrong on this one. Graphic novels are totally real reading.
Graphic novels greatly appeal to teen readers and are packed with complex storylines, and captivating visual elements.
They also are a great gateway to get students into reading more complex texts. During my tenure as a high school English teacher, I have come to understand that most students don't visually imagine what they're reading. There is no movie adaptation of the reading playing in their heads. Graphic novels are a great way to help students visualize what is happening within a story.
My senior classes will be studying Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. This felt like a tall order. I work at a Title I school, and most students are struggling readers who read well below grade level. I also teach Inclusion classes, meaning half of my students will have IEPs. This particular graphic novel of Frankenstein should help my students engage with the material! This will leave more class time devoted to discussion and analysis versus trying to decode the more mature and complex language.
