During nutrition breaks it is common we have 20 student visitors, and often during lunch time we have over 60 visitors. \r\n\r\nThe most popular items have been the bean bag chairs and bookmarks. The bean bag chairs have provided flexible seating for students visiting during and outside of class time. Our voracious readers have been eager to check out and return books to receive a new scented bookmark and/or magnetic bookmark. \r\n\r\nWith the resources for mending and processing books, we are dutifully working on getting repaired/new books to the shelves so our students can enjoy them. This is how teaching is supposed to be! I used to have to stop my conversation with a student, and walk over to my laptop, and switch the slide, then walk back, or I would not be able to walk around the classroom in proximity to my students, having to stand boringly up there close to my computer (it needs to be plugged in for charging, sometimes for the smartboard connection to wifi connectivity issues, and would be too heavy to carry around constantly). This makes me as a teacher far more present for my students. What a small device can do to make everyday more meaningful for my classes!\r\n\r\nThe reading camera has made it so I can model reading out loud, notetaking, and text processing in real-time with the visual for them to follow along. Thanks to you, our students now have the opportunity to transform their digital creations into tangible pieces of work that they can proudly share with others. The impact this has had on their learning has been truly remarkable.\r\n\r\nThe new printers are giving my students a unique way to express their creativity and bring their ideas to life in a way that digital screens simply can't match. Whether they're printing out a research report, a detailed project, or a visually appealing presentation, the ability to hold a physical representation of their work has deepened their engagement and sense of pride. It has also made collaboration more interactive—students are now able to quickly print and share their projects with classmates, fostering teamwork and a sense of collective achievement.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting uses of the printers has been in our sports program. Several students, particularly those involved in the school's athletic teams, have used the printers to print action shots they captured during games. After taking photos with the cameras provided by the school, students have worked together in teams to choose the best images—frozen moments of athleticism and teamwork—and eagerly print them to display around the school. For example, one group of students from the football team printed a series of images from a recent game, including a key touchdown play, and turned it into a collage to share with their teammates. The collaboration involved not just taking the photos, but also selecting the most impactful shots, editing them, and sharing the finished products. These action shots have not only helped document our athletic successes but will also play a key role in improving the yearbook pages this school year. Our yearbook committee has been thrilled to incorporate these real-time sports moments, adding energy and authenticity to the final product.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the printers have played an essential role for our Robotics and STEM teams as they continue to prepare for upcoming competitions. Last November, our students proudly competed in the JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) competition, where they applied their technical skills to solve real-world challenges. The printers allowed them to print out detailed reports, technical documentation, and presentations that clearly communicated their ideas and findings. These printed materials were a crucial part of their competition preparations, helping students refine their concepts and present them professionally.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our teams are now preparing for two major events: the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) competition this February and the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) competition in March. In both of these competitions, the ability to print reports, data analysis, and designs is invaluable. For example, our robotics team is using the printers to create detailed project reports and documentation of their design process, which they will present during the competitions. The ability to produce polished, printed materials is helping them to communicate their complex ideas clearly and effectively, boosting their confidence in the competitive environment.\r\n\r\nSome students, particularly those who are more visually or kinesthetically inclined, have especially warmed to the new technology. For example, one student who struggles with traditional paper-and-pencil assignments has flourished in this digital space. She now eagerly participates in creating and printing her own designs, which she never would have done before. Another student, who is deeply passionate about robotics, has used the printers to print project posters and documentation that he will present to judges in the upcoming competitions.\r\n\r\nAs I reflect on the impact of this project, I see how it has allowed my students to connect with their learning in a more personal and meaningful way. They are not just completing assignments; they are crafting projects that reflect who they are, their passions, and their ideas. You've made it possible for them to share their voices with the school community in a tangible way, which will inspire them long after they leave my classroom.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your belief in our students. You are helping to create an environment where creativity, collaboration, and self-expression can thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1730309301957,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-ideas-to-life-with-printers/8903174/","projectTitle":"Bringing Ideas to Life with Printers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fushan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9780931_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756011500121","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9780931"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7230","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1036,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":84,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.6,"schoolId":7230,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Los Angeles Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Los Angeles Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/los-angeles-senior-high-school/7230"}
