Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In 3rd grade, my students are introduced to new and challenging math concepts such as multiplication, distributive property, division, equivalent fractions, etc. My project requests supplies for 4 different math explorations.

Hands-on math activities will help support my students' understanding of math concepts as they strive for proficiency.

The "donut party" supplies will be used for a mock donut store. Students will take donut orders and use different flavor cheerios to fill mini donut boxes with multiplication "arrays".

Hospital gowns, caps, and badge holders will be used for our "Dr. Distributive" activity. Students will dress as medical professionals and "break apart" and then "put back together" arrays to show the distributive property of multiplication.

The "pizza party" decorations will be used for our fraction chapter. Students will take mock pizza orders and use play dough to make pizzas with specific toppings on each fraction/slice of pizza.

Lastly, I have requested supplies for a neon/black light party - "Glow When You Know". This will be to celebrate division facts that have been memorized.

I believe that all of these themed explorations will enhance my students' buy-in for their learning. It will make math fun and engaging and hopefully allow students to develop memorable classroom experiences that they can look back on fondly.
