Help me give my students manipulatives and games that will STEM their creativity and instill the ultimate joy of learning by providing a variety of STEM labs and problem-solving kits that includes engineering and domino kits.
My students live in a small rural and tight-knit community surrounded by farmland. We have a diverse population of students, and many are Native American. My students face many challenges outside of school, but still come to school eager to learn. My students are very inquisitive and interested in a wide variety of subjects. Each child has a different background and homelife, but each one is a delight and joy to have in the classroom.
The past couple of years have been challenging.
Students have spent more time on devices without much social interaction and little opportunity for cooperative and hands-on learning. Also, with technology at a fingertip away, students can find any answer needed by typing the question in the search bar. It is hard to develop critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork when you can just “Google It.” I want to get students involved with hands-on activities that challenge their thinking to develop higher level skills. Students need to learn that through failures and mistakes, profound knowledge can be gained.
These kits will let students explore chain reactions through gravity, motion, force and many engineering aspects. Along with the kits, a storage unit and bins are necessary for easy access.
Students will learn that opportunities for exploration, creativity, collaboration, and problem solving are encouraged in the classroom and are necessary in the adult workforce. These kits and games will illustrate to the students that there can be more than one solution to solve a problem and that failures can lead to success.
