I want to get students away from screen time and have them interact with their peers through critical thinking games, STEM, and STEAM activities. Too much time is spent on devices. COVID-19 has caused a reliance on technology with no physical interaction among peers. Getting students actively engaged with others through play and creative learning is vital for collaboration and social skills. These skills can not be mastered by staring at a screen all day.
The games and activities were chosen to develop collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to help increase participation, social skills, and improve attitudes for learning through fun. These games can be used for enrichment, center choice, or even during indoor recess. They can be added as a fun assignment on a choice board. Having board games like Clue, Othello, or STEM activities to build a roller coaster will help students keep connected through collaboration and allow them to begin to succeed in obtaining these skills.
