This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"It's not about what it is; it is about what it can become."
Dr. Seuss.
I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area, with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, and their engagement in classroom activities!
My Project
The Osmo Geneius Kit will provide my students with hands-on academic learning opportunities. Osmo combines the concept of a reading and math with a hands-on experience. For students who are tactile learners and benefit from concrete examples, Osmo will provide them with an opportunity to physically see and manipulate the pieces while connecting letter sounds and reading skills. The ipad is needed to use Osmo. The iPad provides technology that will also be used to explore math concepts as well as discover science topics presented in Next Generation Science Standards.
Many of my students have never thought about a career in STEM, and I want to open their minds to the endless possibilities.
This will help supplement and build on the skills they learned previously to provide both tactile learning opportunities to provide a deeper understanding sounds and numbers. Providing students with a variety of experiences from a young age will increase their understanding of basic concepts, building an interest in computer science and related fields as they get older.
