My Students

I have 19 lovable first graders in my class. While I have several high-achieving students, many of my students struggle and require extra support to be successful.

They love books, games, and being silly.

Many of them are being raised by grandparents or other family members other than their parents. I try to make sure I start each day off hugging my babies when they walk in the room. Not only are many of them starved for knowledge, but they are also needing lots of love. Three students are currently being tested for a possible learning disability and will likely qualify. These students require extra time, practice, and attention daily to complete assignments and learn new material.

My Project

STEM bins will allow students to think outside the box to create, build, explore, and problem-solve during our day. Students will use these bins as exploratory rotations that will lead into conversations and writing experiences. Students will be able to engage in partner work and build communication and problem solving skills while using the bins.

The best part about the STEM bins is that students won't know that all these things are taking place.

They will think they are just having fun. In my teaching world today, so much emphasis is being put on STEAM and technology, yet the time in our day is very limited to make this happen. By incorporating STEM bins into my classroom, it gives every child an opportunity to explore, create, and problem solve on their own.
