My Students

The majority of my students are experiencing school for the first time. This can be scary and overwhelming for the majority of them. They come from low-income backgrounds and families who are worried about providing an education for them and worried about putting food on the table. They are loving children who are eager to learn and want to explore the world around them.

Having a classroom that is engaging and welcoming is very important to me.

If my classroom is home-like then the children are more apt to learn and have a wonderful time. Making a positive experience for their new adventure in schooling is the key to making a successful student.

I want to make sure every child feels welcome and secure. Having them feel that they have ownership in the classroom makes all the difference in the world and is key in helping them be comfortable and able to learn.

My Project

The materials I have chosen are to help me plan activities centered around STEM and science for my youngest learners. I have realized that science is lacking in my classroom. While acquiring these resource materials I am able to meet the Early Childhood Standards by helping them use scientific thinking and the use of the scientific method. We will also be able to have a better understanding of life science, physical science, earth and space and engineering. These reference materials will help my students become life-long scientists.

As an early childhood teacher, my youngest learners are hands-on learners.

With these resources I am able to provide activities that let the children use all five senses. We will have a hands on approach to learning about science and the world around them.

I am excited to have more opportunities to give my students, to learn about the world around them and provide the learning experiences that will help them prepare for their schooling in language, literacy, math, science and social studies.
