Gone are the days of the chalk boards. Students are now facing the challenge of focus and high stake testing. Confidence building is created and nurtured through "Show me" and "peer to peer" learning. My class is no exception; all of our students function as Ohana, helping each other is a desire.
Most students are family-centered, caring students who would give the shirts off their backs to the underdog.
These Third graders go the extra mile to help one another. Our school, nestled in the heart of "God's country, Hawaii", perpetuates the motto "You Go, We Go!" Being classified as a Title One school, our students are great students who need a little care to succeed. Our student population is very unique in that it consists not only of local, but also our close proximity to two military base (MCBH & BAFS), adds diversity and many precious sharable experiences. The faculty, staff and community (local and military) go above and beyond to ensure that all students succeed and always pitch in where help is needed.
My Project
The Future is so bright, but the skills are complex. STEM, the trigger word facing our current students is a skill set that we as educators along with future career forecasters are predicting will be to be in high demand as our current students begin to enter the work place.
Studies are showing that STEM SKILLS (such as coding) are fast becoming the skill set most highly being sought after.
These wanted skills are generally not perfected individually but thru collaboration.
Currently my students are very fortunate to have the technology to "build" their skills, but what is hindering the collaboration between these dreamers of tomorrow is the ability to share their work with one another to then "PERFECT" it. Our class is very fortunate to have the tools to create, but we lack the ability to share and collaborate with one another in class size groups.
With the requested Television which is large and clear enough, our STEM projects can be shared to all with little to no distractions, thus making collaboration that much more easier and ultimately developing those needed skills to make our soon to be leaders that much more successful.
