My Project

I have a great group of first-graders who work hard all day and still want more. One area we need help with is increasing the amount of time we engage in STEM activities. LEGO are the answer!

LEGO helps students learn STEM skills through hands-on building and designing, while also allowing students to improve critical thinking, problem-solving, and spatial reasoning skills.

STEM can have a reputation of being hard because the subjects can be rigid and technical. Children can be intimidated by these subjects, but LEGO offer a way that STEM can be taught in a fun and engaging way. They are designed to offer children entertaining and imaginative ways to learn and explore the world around them. LEGO will help make science fun.

My goal will be to use the LEGO Education Spike Essential curriculum that focuses on STEM/STEAM thinkers. The five units last approximately 50 hours and allow students to brainstorm, develop solutions, while also collaborating. Students will use the other LEGO sets during their free time on Friday's.
