STEM with a Math Focus

My Project

After spending this past year teaching a 2nd and 3rd grade split class, I now have a better idea of what materials I need to make math instruction and independent learning more engaging. I already have some of the fraction war and pizza games. However, I don’t have enough for all of one grade level to play at once. Next year, I envision having a parent volunteer come in every two weeks to introduce a new math game that goes with our current unit of study. After teaching the game, all students from that particular grade level will play the game during their independent work time (while I teach the other grade level math lesson). The magnatiles and exploragons will help with identifying different types of polygons, triangles based on angle size, and more. All of these STEM skills will help my students be better citizens, climate activists, and help develop their critical thinking.
