STEM Weather Unit Integrating a Powerful Literary Connection

Help me give my students the opportunity to have a better understanding of our STEM Weather Unit by connecting it to historical fictions of the "I survived" book series.

My Project

I am reaching with an exciting opportunity to enrich my students' learning experience by combining the world of science and storytelling.

As part of my STEM Weather Unit, I plan to integrate a powerful literary connection by using the "I Survived" historical fiction series by Lauren Tarshis.

These exciting and engaging books tell the stories of young characters - close in age to my students - who survive real-life natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards.

To make this possible, I am hoping to gather classroom sets of a few titles in the series so that every student can read and learn together. I am also asking for one complete set of the whole series. My hopes are that after we enjoy these few weather books together, they will find a love for reading these historical fictions, and want to continue to the rest of the series.
