My students? Happy, enthusiastic learners are how I would describe them.
I work in a low socioeconomic area.
We have a large number of English language learners. I too grew up in this area and returned to teach here to give back to my community. Our school believes in our students and works hard to provide a rigorous academic curriculum and real-world experiences. Since our school is high-performing, our budget is much smaller than lower-performing schools. For this reason, it is necessary for teachers like myself to post projects on DonorsChoose to get the necessary materials we need for our students.
My Project
STEM education requires rich learning materials geared towards developing critical thinking and problem-solving. After over a year of online teaching and learning, we're all ready for some hands-on activities!
The STEM materials requested in this project will foster ingenuity and creativity.
In addition, the experimentation with the use of these materials will assist the children in developing resilience as they make adaptations to their projects. The process of building and revising designs to improve one's work is the essence of engineering. The requested materials will provide the students with opportunities for free exploration as well as targeted assignments to develop critical thinking skills.
