Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are between the ages of four and five. They are just starting their school experience and they all have a great love of learning.
This age group requires visual props, small group instruction, creative play, manipulatives and auditory processing opportinities.
We are a Title I School and PHBAO (Predominately Hispanic, Black, or other.) Many of these students come to school without the basic foundation needed to succeed, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well.
Every student learns through different modalities and it is important to provide a rich environment that is a component of the curriculum.
My Project
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. A curriculum that is STEM-based has real-life situations that help the student learn. The STEM math manipulatives and view a plant science experiment will expose my students to STEM and give them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts at a developmentally-appropriate level. These STEM kits and hands on activities will allow my students to use their imagination as they explore and discover math and science concepts while using hands-on materials.
I hope that exposure to STEM activities at an early age will not only spark excitement for learning and challenge my students, but will cause my students to develop a passion for STEM and possibly pursue a career in it later in life.
My students will understand that math and science can be exciting and interesting. These STEM materials will benefit my students as they become excited about STEM and STEM-related careers. These materials will also allow my students to be creative using critical thinking skills. They will be able to master the New Generation Science Standards as well the The Common Core Math Standards.
