I teach first grade to a wonderful group of students! Most of my students come from low-income homes. 40% of my students are learning English. They often go home and teach their families what they are learning at school. These students don't have access to computers, technology and sometimes even books. I am always happy to lend out books for students to read at home. They are so proud to take books home to share with their family. These students work so hard at school and at home. They make tremendous gains each year!
My Project
My students need STEM manipulatives to stimulate their mind. Students do a lot of work all day and sometimes they need a break. STEM tools provide hands-on fun, and are educational. They allow students to be creative. Students can also learn from each other while they try using the tools in different ways. These STEM tools will be used in small groups in the classroom on days where students need to be creative. Group work teaches students to communicate and problem-solve with each other. It allows students to work together towards a common goal. They love when they can have fun with their friends!
