Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school with a wonderful principal who is hands-on and visible to all the students. It is a school that serves the community as a whole. It starts by helping the family getting community resources at the school. With that in mind, I work with my students in reaching their academic gaps. I am a special education teacher with students in the general education setting. My students often just need a little guidance and are able to make academic gains within the classroom.
One hundred percent of our students participate in free and reduced-priced lunch.
The school currently runs a weekend food backpack program to provide for the students over the weekend. As a school, we are the first in our state to become a community-based school that provides these resources for parents and students. The school provides early literacy classes for future kindergarten students, medical care, job search, and referral to behavioral health services. This has been a great hit because by helping the family you are helping the child. It is a community for the students.
My Project
Pursuing an occupation in STEM or becoming engaged with STEM at a young age, will open countless doors for a lifetime. As an educator, I feel it is my responsibility to provide my students with the ever possible exciting opportunity to learn about the field. I am requesting a kit that will allow me to bring engaging STEM activities and real-world activities.
My students need a fun and interactive way to learn about working together.
I am requesting a To the Rescue: Engineering Aid Drop Packages. Students will learn about monsoon rains can cause severe flooding that cuts people off from important supplies. They will then engineer “aid drop packages” that can be dropped from an aircraft, protect what’s inside, and are easy to find once they reach the ground.
The kits will continue to enhance our STEM learning and add rigor to our lessons will give them the opportunity to strengthen their critical-thinking and creative problem-solving skills and reflect on their entry’s performance and what they could do to improve it.
