My Project
Listening is a vital part of the success of the choir. The perceived sound from the middle of the choir is not the same as the audience's perceived sound. Many factors make up these perceptions, such as acoustics, blend, resonance space, balance, tessitura, spacing, timbre, and many more. I often record my students and play it back to them so they can self-assess. Currently, we have a set of old computer speakers that I use to play recordings. The speakers we have are muffled and start rattling if they are turned to a moderate, audible volume.
My students need a set of high-quality speakers to better self-evaluate.
These speakers will be used so that they can think critically about the music they are actively creating. The specific speakers I chose are also Bluetooth accessible on multiple devices at a time. With so much emphasis on STEM, we will also incorporate other activities using technology and the science of how sound is created and how we perceive it. Having this technology in my classroom will open many opportunities.
