Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm the teacher of the Intellectual Disabled Moderate (IDM) program at my middle school. This is my third year teaching, and I'm still working on building up my resources. I work at a low-income school where not only does the school have low resources, but most of the families I work with are at or below the poverty level. I don't want to let lack of resources stand in the way of my students’ education. I want to be able to provide them with the best learning experience possible.
I have a very diverse classroom with different ability levels.
I would love to provide all my students with opportunities that will help them progress.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to accomplish my goals when resources are low and the demand is high. I have sixth-eighth graders, and all my students are at different ability levels. I have nonverbal students who need different resources than my students who are struggling readers. I created a classroom environment that runs by centers. Some centers lack the resources for the students’ level. I want to create centers that will enrich all my students’ learning, a 21st century classroom, and more art integration.
My Project
Our school garden needs a little help to get back to where it was, and I would love my students to help build the garden up. In order to achieve this goal my students need to dig deep in the concept of the plant life cycle, how to grow things, and experimenting.
I am asking for supplies that will help me achieve my students understanding of how to use STEM to help rebuild our school garden.
My students have intellectual disabilities and require a lot of manipulative and hands on experiences in order to understand concepts.
I am asking for Lakeshore kits that will help my class discuss in detail plant life cycles and how things grow. I am asking for four Grow 'n Glow Terrarium, which I plan to have groups take care of their own Terrariums, which will help them understand the importance for caring for their plants. The science experiment kits and materials will be used to for activities that are STEM based and will help my students develop skills such as trial and error, critical thinking, hypothesizing, creativity, and so much more. The magnifiers will be used once students go out to the garden to explore.
