My Students

My school is located in the suburbs of Minneapolis. We are a magnet school for children's engineering. More than 50% of our students come from poverty and over 20 different languages are spoken in the school. We also have high mobility, meaning children move in and out of our school quite frequently. This often leaves large gaps in learning. My classroom is a rainbow of diversity in terms of culture, race, and ability. My students are very active! They love to read and write, and we are all developing a love for problem solving.

My Project

This year I would like my students to have plenty of opportunities to use STEM materials when using the steps of design process. Being new to the school we have very few resources in our classroom to get our brains thinking and creating! Brain Flakes, Mobilo, K'nex, Squigz and Sticky Blocks give students the opportunity to build concrete structures to solve real-life problems.

We want our class to put their thinking into action!

These resources will be a wonderful way for students to demonstrate their understanding of topics and create models to explain how they would solve problems.

Not only can we use this during STEM Time, but we can also use these products during those tough Minnesota winter days when we have indoor recess. Thank you in advance for your generous donations and helping to create a hands-on, problem-solving environment in our class!
