Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When you first walk into my class/lab, you will realize that there are three hundred unique students. They all come from different backgrounds and deserve to have the best so they can make a difference in the world.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela.
Our school is a low resource school. Each student has a story. Some of them come from really rough homes where school is usually not the first thing on their mind. Others, they come from very loving homes but still have many struggles at home. No matter what the differences are, they have learned that we are a family and they treat each other with that respect. They are a wonderful group of students who are eager to learn.
My Project
The STEM class in our school is a big hit. The students are highly engaged. They are constantly using the Engineering Design Process to create solutions to real world problems. During this time, students go through tons of supplies quickly. Tape, foil paper, glue, glue gun sticks, and clorox wipes are the first to go. Since three hundred students come through my classroom each week, we are always disinfecting all the surfaces. Duct tape, masking tape, glue gun sticks, glue and foil paper are staples in the creations students use. Hanging up student work is an important part of taking ownership of their work. Command strips help keep their work up without falling down. Students are also learning how to sew. Providing them with embroidery hoops helps them get a good grip when learning to sew. We are constantly in need of refilling our supplies. These supplies will help keep our classroom running smoothly.
The fourth grade students are going to start a forensic unit next quarter.
This is a new unit that we are trying out. Since this is the first time, we are in need of crime solving kits and test tubes to get the unit started. The students have already showed an interest in forensics, so I know that they will be excited to take part in this unit.
