My Title I school’s motto is that our students are worth it, and they truly are! I hold my students to high expectations in spite of their life situations. Being a Title I school means that over 50% of our student population receive free or reduced price lunch. I have to use a variety of ways to keep my students motivated; flexible seating will add a new dimension to that motivation.
When you walk into my classroom you will see students working around the room in various ways.
Several students would be standing behind their chairs, some laying on the floor, and others sitting on the counter. They like to move, spread out, and find a spot in the classroom that allows them to do their personal best.
My Project
My students love using manipulatives to help then learn. STEM is a great way to ensure they are getting this hands on learning they love so much.
STEM bins are such an easy way to complete an experiment!
With the materials I have selected, I will create drawers with all the materials students will need in order to complete various tasks. Each drawer will come with instructions on what to do with the materials. I have added a drawer cart to my project so that I can store materials for easy student access. Some of the tasks are open ended, which means the students have countless possibilities. Some of the tasks have a set answer, but more than one way to get to the answer.
I have also selected some great, ready to go STEM kits which will supplement our science curriculum by giving students hands on materials to explore the concepts we are learning.
Another great benefit of STEM is that students are not only focusing on science, technology, engineering and math, but they learn to work as a team! This is essential for building our classroom community, and learning the important lifelong skill of teamwork. Students will be required to think critically and work hard to work through their assigned task. Please consider donating to help my class become the best learners they can be!
