STEM Supplies for Amazing Science Experiments, Coding and Engineering Projects!

Help me give my students the best STEM experience they can have! I would like to provide them with some amazing science experiments. I have picked out many of the items needed to do these experiments.

My Students

I am the STEM teacher at my school so I get to see all the students in the whole school. My students are amazing and all are very different. Somethings that I found special about my students is their love of technology and science. I have several students who do not speak English, some that speak multiple languages and will translate for these student. The amazing part of STEM is being able to use things that are familiar to students, like cars, ipads, balloons, bubbles etc and give them opportunities to use them in different ways, or explore what they can do with them. My students took hot wheels cars and random house hold items and made the cars go without touching them. I am impressed with how many different ways they came up with to get the cars to move.

My Project

My students have had 3 school year disrupted due to COVID. I would love to have them benefit from the USBE COVID relief funding. I want to provide my STEM students with the opportunity to amazing science experiments. The supplies I have selected would let them make Harry Potter wands that will light up by "magic" or science. They would learn how to make a simple electrical circuit that would power the light bulbs. We would also continue this theme by making potions using vinegar, dish soap, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. They would use the scientific method to make hypothesis about what will happen when they combine these ingredients. Using the scientific method helps them fulfill the Computer Science Standard for third grade by helping them decompose problems and determine specific aspects of patterns between problems.

We will also be using LEGOs and the games suspend and Labyrinth to reinforce engineering and coding skills.

They will be using the engineering process to ask questions, imagine the answers, plan, create and then improve.
